Frank Wouters has been leading renewable energy projects, transactions, and technology development for over 25 years. He has played a lead role in development of renewable generation projects valued at over $4.5 billion. These range from small scale PV solar electrification in Uganda to the 100MW Shams I Concentrated Solar Plant (CSP) in the UAE, and strategic equity investment in the London Array, the world’s largest offshore wind project.

As Deputy Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the first global intergovernmental organisation dedicated to all renewables, he managed a US$350 million IRENA/Abu Dhabi Fund for Development project facility for RE. He appraised over 80 projects a year and recommended projects for funding, including solar PV projects in Africa.

Mr. Wouters has served on the board of several energy companies, including Torresol, where he developed three CSP plants, including the Gemasolar central tower with molten salt storage.

He currently serves as Director of the EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, a platform that aims to foster clean energy partnerships between Europe and the Gulf, he is advising the World Bank on Concentrated Solar Power in the MENA region and he is a non-executive Board Director of Gorestreet Capital, London.

Maher is the President of ESMIG - the European smart energy solution providers since 2014.

Since May 1st 2017, he is Chief Commercial Officer at General Electric (GE) leading GE Global Power Digital Solutions.

Before GE, he spent 21 years with SAP till April 2017 where he had several local, regional and global leadership positions in various sectors, particularly Energy that he led since 2005 for EMEA.

Besides being President of ESMIG, Maher has several other roles in different associations such as:

Dr. Haitham Abu-Rub is a full professor holding two PhDs. Since 2006, Dr. Abu-Rub has been associated with Texas A&M University at Qatar, where he is currently the chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering program and the Managing director of the Smart Grid Center – Extension in Qatar. He has long experience in teaching and research at many universities in different countries, eg. Qatar, Palestine, Germany, USA, Poland, and UK.

His main research interests are energy conversion systems, electric drives, power electronic converters, renewable energy and smart grid.

Dr. Abu-Rub is the recipient of many prestigious international awards, including the American Fulbright Scholarship, the German Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship, the German DAAD Scholarship, and the British Royal Society Scholarship. He has co-authored more than 300 journal and conference papers and five books, four of them with Wiley.

Currently he is leading many potential projects on smart grid, photovoltaic and hybrid renewable power generation systems with different types of converters.
